Doubt looms over United v Brighton game as staff & players on both teams affected by COVID-19

With Manchester United’s game against Brentford being postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak, there is still a chance that their match against Brighton could face the same fate as well.

In a further blow to the chances of the match proceeding as usual, Brighton has also reported several COVID infections among staff, putting Saturday’s game in serious doubt.

After the Brentford issue, United first-team players returned to their Carrington training grounds, and had to undergo lateral flow and PCR testing before being allowed into training. United fans will be sorely hoping for some action this Saturday, having slipped to 6th on the Premier League table after Arsenal’s 2-0 triumph at West Ham on Thursday.

United come into this game strong after 3 consecutive wins in the Premier League, while opponents Brighton have failed to muster a single victory in their last 5 games, losing twice and drawing 3. If form is anything to go by, the Red Devils should have all 3 points in the bag before the Christmas break and occupy 4th spot on the Premier League standings. Provided the game does not get postponed as feared.

Will the game be postponed to dampen the festive cheers of United supporters, or will United be able to once again display their resurgence under Ralf Rangnick at home for the United faithful? We will find out soon enough.
