Race 1: Chung On Handicap
#9 Masterwork caught the eye at his final run of last season, narrowly missing over the course and distance. Suspect he can fire fresh here just as his trackwork suggests. #2 Little Bird has proven himself on the surface. He can make his presence felt. #10 E Honey caught the eye when trialling on the surface. Don’t discount, especially from gate three with Joao Moreira engaged. #7 Garlic Hero is consistent in his spot. He draws well and rates as a player.
Race 2: Hoi Pa Handicap
#11 Smart Idea has the runs on the board and consistency in his pocket. He owns a slick personal best over this course and distance and his form is definitely to be coming to hand at the right time. #2 Chicken Dance is better than Class 4. He’s had soundness issues but if he can get his fitness right then he’s in with a chance. He’s worth an each way play. #5 Sparkling Knight races well here. He’s competitive in his spot. #9 Boys Party caught the eye at the trials. Joao Moreira hops up and he commands respect.
Race 3: Sha Tsui Handicap
#6 Romantic Trove has the ability. Suspect he can return to form at Sha Tin, especially from gate one with Derek Leung engaged. #4 Dragon Baby just needs to offset the wide gate. This could prove difficult but if anyone can overcome it, it’s Joao Moreira. #3 The Anomaly has talent. He returned in solid order first-up and does look open to a stack of improvement here. #13 Golden Four slots in light. Don’t discount here even though he steps up in grade.
Race 4: Tai Ho Handicap
#1 Little Player is coming to hand nicely. He closed off stoutly for fifth last start and he looks open to further improvement here. Blake Shinn hops up now and this contest is well within his grasp. #2 Win Tech is favoured by the class-drop. Karis Teetan hops up now and he gets his chance from gate six. #5 Fox Cheunger is consistent in his spot. He’ll need a race run to suit but expect a fast-finish from him. #10 Soccer Master mixes his form but does step out off the right mark. Gate three suits and he’s in with a chance.
Race 5: Tak Wah Handicap
#13 London Luckystar slots in light. He just needs to overcome the awkward gate here to be ultra-competitive. He can improve off the back of his strong first-up showing. #5 Glorious Lover draws well and gets a handy seven-pound claim from apprentice Alfred Chan. He looks like he’ll relish the added distance. #9 Fairy Floss did extremely well to string four wins together at the back-end of last campaign. He’s in with his chance as long as he gets a race run to suit. #12 The Mint looks open to improvement.
Race 6: Yen Chai Trophy Handicap
#11 Breeze Of Spring narrowly missed by a short-head first-up. Joao Moreira retains the ride and he only needs to repeat that effort to suggest he’s going to be hard to beat. #5 Emerald Spur closed off impressively first-up. Suspect he can put his best foot forward and contend from gate six under Blake Shinn. #1 Harmony Win Win is coming to hand. He only needs to offset the wide gate. #14 Sunny Baby commands respect with no weight on his back.
Race 7: Tsuen Fu Handicap
#9 Gold Comet is bred for the dirt and his devastating first Hong Kong win last term displayed that when trouncing his rivals by nine lengths. His best has him winning this contest as he’s favoured by the step up in trip. #3 Ultra Express has shown plenty of class on the turf. Interesting to see him step onto the dirt for the first time on race day but his ability should take him a long way. #4 Skyey Supreme won first-up last term. He can roll forward and play catch me if you can. Don’t discount at a price. #7 Elon is next best.
Race 8: Tsuen Lok Handicap
#1 Hongkong Great can roll forward and take this contest out. He’s a supreme talent on the surface and from gate one he rates to get all of the favours out in front. #6 Man Star has a prolific record on the dirt as a three-time winner from six tries. He slots in light and is favoured by gate three. #3 Kurpany only needs to offset the wide gate to be a major player. If #9 Czarson can capture his best then he’s up to this contest. The light weight gives him his chance.
Race 9: Yeung Uk Handicap
#6 Gluck Racer is a supreme talent who is now a three-time winner from six starts. He made his first attempt at Class 3 a winning one and it wouldn’t surprise to see him get on the board again. #13 California Cible grabbed second on debut in Hong Kong. Expect improvement again off the back of an impressive first-up run. #3 High Rise Soldier is consistent in his spot. He rarely runs a bad race is favoured with Joao Moreira hopping up. #11 Star Of Yuen Long has more ability than his record suggests. Next best.
Race 9: Wo Tik Handicap
#11 Meridian Genius closed gamely first-up and he looks open to further improvement off that effort. He finished alongside Transcendent who subsequently won at the Valley’s midweek card and a return to Sha Tin here for the grey, shapes as a big bonus. #2 Master Delight finished third on debut in Hong Kong. He posted a brilliant run in defeat and only needs to offset gate 12 to be competitive here. #1 Hall Of Champ rarely runs a bad race. Don’t discount. #4 Golden Link has a bit of class. Must include.
