MATCH PREVIEW

The Bavarians need one more win to secure their ninth straight league title, and after missing out on an opportunity to confirm their triumph the last match-day, they won’t repeat that mistake again.

As of now, Hans-Dieter Flick’s men are at the top of the table with a seven-point lead over the second-placed Leipzig. They have scored the most number of goals of all the teams in the German top flight, 86, while the next best is just 66 by Dortmund.

After their loss in the Champions League, the team is determined to make amends with the Bundesliga winners’ medal, and this is also an opportunity for Robert Lewandowski to break the league record of 40 goals long held by Gerd Mueller.

At present the Polish striker has 36 goals to his name, and if not for his month-long injury, the player would have long eclipsed this mark.

Meanwhile, Monchengladbach are trailing by 25 points in the seventh position, and are by no means a match for the defending champions.

Not only are they inconsistent, but they are struggling on the road, and also have a poor h2h record against this rival over the years.

By the looks of things, Bayern are definitely going after a victory this weekend, and thus the title.

PREDICTION

The Bavarians lost 2-1 on the road the last match-day, against Mainz. In the meantime, Monchengladbach registered a 5-0 victory against Bielefeld.

Going on, Flick’s men were unbeaten in 20 of their last 23 overall fixtures, and they have lost just once at this venue in the past eight months. The defeat had come against PSG in the CL.

On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in 11 of their former 15 overall games, and they had gone on a seven-fixture losing run in the process. Note that they have also won just twice on the road since the first week of January.

Taking into account these observations, expect a convincing Bayern Munich win this weekend.
