MATCH PREVIEW

Leeds tend to save some of their best work for games against the Premier League’s loftier reputations and Tottenham could find the going tough when they visit Elland Road at lunchtime on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa’s workaholics were bested 2-0 by Brighton their last outing, though a string of top performances against some of the division’s best before that made for impressive viewing.

Leeds faced Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Man Utd inside the space of six fixtures and didn’t lose once, and they look ready to go toe-to-toe with Spurs’ star-studded side in similar fashion.

Despite a largely disappointing campaign and recent managerial upheaval, Tottenham are still firmly in the race to secure continental football for next season, and a victory at Elland road this weekend would push them to within two points of Chelsea in fourth spot.

Spurs warmed up for their date with Leeds by rattling four goals past their Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United last week, where on-loan winger Gareth Bale showed his class by netting a superb hattrick.

PREDICTION

Saturday’s lunchtime skirmish pits the innovative tactical mind of Marcelo Bielsa against a top-level greenhorn in Ryan Mason, and the Argentinean’s experience could be a game-changer.

Leeds have performed brilliantly against some of the Premier League’s biggest and best over the past month, while Elland Road – where they have lost just once in seven matches – has become a happy hunting ground for the hosts.

Spurs have struggled on the road for most of 2021, winning just three times in their last 12 on their travels in all competitions and a Leeds side that tend to play with confidence against the division’s headline acts could be worth backing the double chance market as a result.

Our 1-1 correct score prediction tips the contest to eventually end level however. Leeds drew with Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd in three of their last four assignments at Elland Road in a trio of matches that spawned just two goals, and their lack of punch in the final third means they might have to be satisfied with a point again.
