Defending Ligue 1 champions Lille travel to Lorient on Friday searching for their second win of the new campaign.

After a turbulent start, Lille finally managed to put a win on the board. It was the combined brilliance of Burak Yilmaz and Jonathan David that helped them to edge past a tricky Montpellier at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on a 2-1 margin.

The team managed by Jocelyn Gourvennec have previously drawn 2 and were surprisingly beaten 4-0 by Nice. They start the matchday 5 from 10th spot, already 7 points behind league leaders PSG.

On the other side of the country, Lorient will be happy with the start of the season so far. They had a few difficult fixtures yet managed to bag 5 points along with a morale boosting 1-0 win against Monaco in the only home game played so far.

The Les Merlus have an excellent home record in 2021, losing just 2 of the 12. One of the teams that defeated them in the period was Lille and the other was Monaco. There have been 9 wins, this proved vital in them avoiding relegation last season.

PREDICTION

Lille may want to do much better here after dropping points in 3 of the 4 matches played so far. However, Lorient will back their chances as well, making this an intriguing contest to watch.

We back both teams to score as the best bet for this Ligue 1 fixture, considering the hosts have netted in all 17 home matches played in calendar year 2021. While Lille missed the target only once in away games in the league since the start of last season.

We back the away win along with this, though this will be tough in the absence of Renato Sanchez and any other prominent name benched by Jocelyn Gourvennec due to their involvement in international matches.
