Race 1: Peng Chau Handicap

#5 Durham Star caught the eye at the trials and does appear forward enough to win on debut. #3 Jade Phoenix is racing well with three top-three efforts from his last four starts. He’s closing in on a first win. #4 Darci Joy is another who has looked impressive at the trials. He deserves respect. #2 Baltic Whisper has both the runs and wins on the board.

Race 2: Ap Lei Chau Handicap

#1 Ka Ying Star can find the front and play catch me if you can. He’s tough and his forward style of racing will afford him every opportunity. #2 More Than This has a stack of ability but he has struggled to recapture his best since his four-year-old season. #4 Fast Most Furious is competitive in his spot as a two-time winner in this grade. #7 Singapore Sling slots in light and should get his chance under the in-form Karis Teetan.

Race 3: Soko Islands Handicap

#5 Crown Avenue won over this course and distance four starts ago. Strong booking of Zac Purton warrants respect as the Australian has paired with trainer Dennis Yip for eight wins together so far this season. #3 Double Take draws well and gets his chance with the blinkers applied for the second time. #10 Yes We Can slots in light and did win on the turf over this distance three starts ago. #1 Unite Spirit is next best. He just needs to shoulder top-weight duties.

Race 4: Tsing Yi Handicap

#10 Shinealot is long-standing maiden of 24 starts in Hong Kong. Still, he has strung together a number of good runs and the inside gate should assist him this weekend. #4 Apolar Warrior has taken his time to acclimatise in Hong Kong. Still, he’s shown glimpses of ability and he should be able to run his race in his spot. #3 Sure Win Win has ability although he does mix his form at times. Still, he’s a threat. #2 Regency Gem is a winner in this grade. He bears close watching with Zac Purton engaged.

Race 5: Cheng Chau Handicap

#1 California Rad has the class edge in this contest. He’s a three-time winner already this season and he draws well to get back into the winner’s stall. #3 Super Wealthy is slowly returning to form. He’s reaching his mark but remains a threat with Zac Purton engaged. #6 Guy Dragon closed off nicely last start. He’ll relish the step up in distance. #8 Roman Turbo is still a maiden in Hong Kong. He has a bit of class about him but this isn’t an easy task.

Race 6: Green Island Handicap

#1 Wind Speeder steps out on debut. He’s trialled well and gets a handy seven pounds taken off his back thanks to Alfred Chan’s apprentice claim. He can figure first-up down the straight. #5 Harmony N Blessed has a stack of ability as a two-time victor from four starts in Hong Kong. Zac Purton takes the reins and he’s a threat stepping back in trip. #3 When You Believe has ability and is worth including. #7 Brilliant Fortune steps out on debut with Joao Moreira engaged. He commands respect having his first start for the new yard. 

Race 7: Lantau Island Handicap

#1 Hot King Prawn grabbed Group 1 glory last start in the Centenary Sprint Cup. He has the class edge on this field as the highest rated horse in the race and if he performs at his best, then he is the one to beat. #7 Winning Dreamer won his first six starts before tasting defeat over the mile last time out. He’s clearly better suited to six furlongs and his latest trial suggests that he has returned to form. #5 Regency Legend closed off nicely first-up to finish second to hot King Prawn in that Group 1. He’s open to further improvement here. #9 Wellington is four for four over six furlongs at Sha Tin. He’s next best with no weight.

Race 8: Po Toi Handicap

#12 Wayfoong Star has been well supported across his five-start career which includes twice being favourite. He clearly has ability and the booking of Alfred Chan suggests that he’ll roll forward and play catch me if you can, which could, bring his best out. #2 Vukan is looking for back-to-back wins. He’s a talent who remains a threat albeit with top-weight allotted. #1 Dandy Years is another looking for back-to-back wins. He draws well. #14 Jiangxi Stamina has ability and does slot in light. He’s racing well.

Race 9: Ma Wan Handicap

#3 Hongkong Great draws to find the front once again in gate one. He led and won well two starts ago before pulling away under his rider to set an unsustainable pace last time out. He’ll find the front and prove hard to catch. #7 Ping Hai Treasure is nothing short of consistent. He’s closing in on a win. #11 Skyey Supreme is another who will roll forward. Though, he does step up in class here which may prove difficult. #2 Elite Patch is next best. 

Race 10: Lamma Island Handicap

#1 Invincible Missile narrowly missed last time out. He’s racing well in this grade and does appear capable of getting back into Class 2, especially with the services of Zac Purton engaged. #7 Ka Ying Excellent can roll forward and give himself every opportunity. #12 Romantic Combo slots in light with Joao Moreira engaged. He’s become a costly conveyance for backers but he does have plenty of ability. #2 Tempest Express draws poorly but rates strongly in his bid to notch a hat-trick of wins.
